Is it ok?

Today while watching the UW/BYU game............ some questions came up in our house. Is is ok for game announcers to discuss religion during the game..... in reference to the teams and not in a general manner? For instance, at the beginning of the game they were discussing each coaches strategy.............. Instead of using football terms one of the guys said that BYU's coach would have to be patient, like Job. This was just the beginning. The "church" was constantly discussed and the marriages of mormon members of the BYU team was a main topic. Then the topper came when the discussion of BYU's coming match up with Utah came up. They refer to that game as a "Holy War". WOW!!!!! Isn't that a little much. Really, isn't football a game that should be enjoyed by both sides? Does it matter who is righteous? Can that even be determined my the average mortal man? What do you think? Is it appropriate to integrate religion with sports in this manner?

I don't see a problem with it. It's common knowledge that BYU is a Mormon school and so it is thus religious. I think that he announcer has the right to speech and if he chose to speak about the religious aspect of the school that is his choice. I don't feel that he crossed a line in any manner. Calling the BYU, UTAH game a Holy War is just like calling the Wyoming, CSU game the border war. It's no different. I don't think that it has anything to do with being righteous or not.. we can't always read to much into things or we would second guess everything that came out of anyones mouth. As for integrated religion into sport...I think it's fine for whomever chooses it to be.. BYU i'm sure prays before every game.. just as Wyoming does.. it's just part of it all.
